Every legend needs a sacrifice.

Clara Malory could only dream of attending Carwen Hall: a storied equestrian academy built on the legend of the radiant knight Eilian. Clara doesn't belong here, among the old-money elite and their prized competition horses. But when her father sacrifices everything he owns to secure her place, she makes up her mind: she will become the finest rider the academy has ever known, and save her family.

On the night of the opening ceremony, a student named Meira rises and speaks of a sacrifice to be paid in blood. Soon after, Meira vanishes without a trace – and the academy's white horse vanishes with her.

The police believe Meira simply broke down, that there is no one left to hunt. Clara knows they're wrong. Because she was there that night.

The closer Clara comes to the truth, the clearer it becomes: the legend of Eilian is not dead.

Someone is trying to wake it.

Carwen Hall has chosen its sacrifice.
